Fine silk and linen batiste nightie from the late 1800s. This creation sets us back to the sophisticated former aristocratic world, where the morning routine included wearing elegant clothes even for staying home, before getting ready to go out. Made of delicate, light fabric, XIX century nightgowns were anything but revealing, often made of two matching pieces. The wide outside-gown and the light top are in silk batiste, enriched by laces and embroideries. The inner gown has a valencienne lace frill with blanket stitch edges; it’s stitched to the top by a delicate flower decoration and a mint green silky lace. Under the first gown, almost invisible, there’s a second silky layer with valencienne lace, giving a soft touch to the skirt. The top empire waist blouse ends on the hipline and has a closing line with English mother of pearl buttons with four holes. Fabric and embroideries match the skirt’s design. The very subtly embroidered letters – GD – complete the fine tailored work.
