Antique Original Japanese bedclothes, embroidered silk, late XIX century

2.300.00€
Precious, silky oriental bedclothes, hand-embroidered.
The beautiful blanket has an awesome design with a silk and golden thread peacock embroidered in the middle.
Its quality and its special design stem from its clearly declared Japanese origins, This bedcover-set was found among the inheritance of a Roman family. It was a wedding gift from the former Japanese ambassador in Rome in the XIX century to an ancestor of the family, a very important judge of the Italian capital that lived next to the ambassador’s home.
The bed blanket is entirely made of silk, filled with Kapok natural fiber. Kapok was a very well-known fiber for that kind of linen at the time. The thread used for the embroidery elegantly mixes natural cotton and golden metal yarns.
Stitches in the inner lining have been hand-sewed, and all the work is the result of patient, traditional work.
Suggestion of use:
