This awesome mirror embodies all the beauty of the ancient wood-carving tradition of Campania (Naples region) in the 1800s.
Impeccable carving patterns and sculpted details of this mirror from Salerno make it an example of creativity and ability combined by expert cabinetmakers of the area.
The mirror has a spectacular hinged opening, with two small side mirrors. The fine carved pattern develops in all the wood parts, and includes sculpted ivy leafs, angels, swallows, and an eagle with wide open wings on top. The original polished mirrors are perfectly intact and inserted in the frame. A real must-have for your home decor!
This was probably created as a rich gift for some special occasion, as stated by a word carved on the main frame, ricordo (memory), that is still well visible.
Suggestion of use:
A splendid home decoration, it suits as topping for a special antique piece of furniture (on the back the mirror has a special holder that allows it to stand on a surface as well as being hung on a wall), for an elegant touch.
State of conservation:
Well preserved, despite its age. The wooden frame and carvings are intact, mirror glass has some slight patina.
Material:
wood
Color:
brown
