Antique mini-barber calendar, die-cut scented paper, 1909

100.00€
A rare, early 1900s illustrated fan-opening-booklet.
This fantastic pocket calendar signed ‘Società Bertelli & C.’ has a peculiar format and a splendid art deco design. It was color printed on specific die-cut and scented paper, and it contains both illustrations and some ad pages of renowned pharmaceutical products of that time.
This was a special type of calendar, specifically designed for men. Such pocket calendars were typical gifts for Italian barbershop clients between the mid 1800s and beginning of 1900s and were very successful, considering their ‘prohibited’ charm – illustrations often included images of beautiful ladies or even pin-ups in swimsuits… even if today they would be considered really innocent.
Due to their format – a tiny seven page booklet, stitch-bound – gentlemen coming out of the ‘barberie’ could easily keep them secret in their pockets, far from indiscrete eyes… This very booklet is intact and therefore not easy to find.
