Amazing antique bed linen, part of a XIX – XX century bridal hope chest kit.

The bedcover is white with spindle-laced edges in white as well, and is made of two linen cloths sewed together and hand-decorated with a classic good luck motto embroidered on. The uniqueness of this set is conveyed by the technique used to create it, which involved two different crafters, mainly women, decorating the linen in a joint effort, as per the Italian tradition of the time. Analyzing the distance between stitches and the difference in the attention to detail, we can assume that maybe the bride herself had worked on that – some subtle mistakes can be traced among the rest of the experts’ work, as if the bride, eager to give a contribution to her “gift”, gave her support, even if she was probably just a beginner.

The bed cloth has an awesome hemstitch decoration in the center, while edges are decorated with a wide spindle lace that matches the three sides of the pillowcases. The closure of the pillowcases is made with the typical small mother of pearl two hole-buttons (7 buttons each), stitched with original linen thread.

Suggestion of use:
A precious wedding gift or a special set to decorate a king sized bed (or two singles together) and make your bedroom look elegant and cozy at the same time.

State of conservation:
Bedcloth and pillowcases are intact. Laces and embroideries are perfectly preserved as well. The set has never been used and, on demand, first washing can be included in the purchase.
